Drill Clutch & Pilot Hole Guide

Tell it the screw and the material. It gives you a clutch setting, a speed range and the exact pilot bit to use.

Start low. Drive one screw into an offcut at the lower number. If the clutch slips before the head sits flush, go up one. That beats starting high and stripping the head or sinking the screw straight through the face.

Clutch dials aren’t standardised — position 12 on one brand is not position 12 on another, which is why this gives you a range to test from rather than a torque figure implying precision that doesn’t exist.
